The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Council (TVET) will be launching a competency-based degree programme next year.

This was revealed by the Council’s Manager of Finance and Corporate Services, Matthew Greaves, as he addressed the graduation ceremony for Ocean Two Resort’s Caribbean Vocational Qualification in Customer Service Level 2 recently.

He said the Council will be collaborating with agencies in the industry to offer the higher level qualification, which utilises the competence-based education and training methodology.

Mr. Greaves explained that the degree level work-based qualification will emphasise standards and practice. The graduates of the competence-based degree programme will be able to teach, train and be practitioners in industry.

“We want to share the mission of the TVET Council Barbados with regards to reshaping the national education and training system through the introduction of competency-based technical and vocational education and training.  I want to extend congratulations to Cohort 1of Ocean Two’s Customer Service Level CVQ Programme.

“Your presence is evidence of TVET’s achievement of its mission which reads in part – producing learners certified through competence-based training who know what to do, why they do it, can do it and will be successful working in any economic sector,” he stated.

He told the graduates that with the acquisition of the CVQ, they now “have proof of their ability to deliver on their expectations of good customer service”.

Meanwhile, Manager of Ocean Two, Paul Collymore, said so far, 131 employees have been trained in Customer Service with a view to training a further 169 by March 2019.
