The Division of Culture Prime Minister’s Office, in collaboration with the United Nations Barbados and Eastern Caribbean Office (UN), will host a public lecture and panel discussion to commemorate UN Day in remembrance of the slave trade and its abolition.

The event will be held on Wednesday, August 23, at the Daphne Joseph Hackett Theatre, Queen’s Park, Constitution Road, St. Michael, starting at 6:30 p.m.  

The lecture will be delivered by The United Nation’s Chair of the Permanent Forum for People of African Descent and Former Vice-president of Costa Rica, Dr. Epsy Campbell Barr.

Panellists will comprise Head of the Department of History and Philosophy, University of the West Indies (UWI) Dr. Henderson Carter; Former Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the UWI, Professor Emeritus Pedro Welch; Historian and Former History Lecturer at the Barbados Community College, Trevor Marshall and Activist and member of the Reparations Committee, Andrea King.

Parking is available in the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training’s car park at the Elsie Payne Complex, Constitution Road, St. Michael.  There will be a cultural cocktail reception following the lecture.
