Twenty-eight volunteers trained in emergency shelter management will receive certificates of participation during a ceremony tomorrow, Thursday, October 12, at the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), Warrens, St. Michael office, at 10:00 a.m.

The DEM, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training and the United States Agency for International Development Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, offered training to volunteers within the National Emergency Management Programme on August 16, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

The volunteers comprised members of the District Emergency Organisations, the Barbados Citizens’ Band Radio Association, and the Barbados Red Cross.  They were trained in various aspects of shelter management, including shelter administration and shelter operations.

The training was intended to further sensitise them on their roles and responsibilities within the shelter management programme and the importance of their role in supporting the Shelter Wardens at the emergency shelters.
