The National Disabilities Unit (NDU) will join the National United Society of the Blind (NUSB) to host a White Cane Safety Day, next week.

While White Cane Safety Day is commemorated on October 15, the event will take place on Monday, October 14. It starts at 10:00 a.m. and will comprise a “Walk Around Warrens”, St. Michael. Walkers will meet at Massy Warrens.

The NDU and the NUSB will seek to make the public aware of the challenges faced by persons with disabilities – blind or visually impaired – when accessing the Warrens area and highlight the independence which the cane brings as they navigate the various spaces.

Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Jehu Wiltshire; Acting Director of the NDU, Wayne Nurse; President of the NUSB, Granville “Mr. DJ” Carter; and Vice President of the Barbados Council for the Disabled, Kerryann Ifill, are expected to be in attendance.
