Nineteen COVID-19 deaths occurred in Barbados during the period Friday, October 29, to Thursday, November 4. Of these, 11 were females (58 per cent).
The ages of those persons who died from the viral illness ranged from 25 to 94, with the median age being 69. Additionally, underlying illnesses or comorbidities were found in 16 (or 84 per cent) of the deceased, while 13 of them (68 per cent) had multiple comorbidities.
The two main comorbidities reported were diabetes and hypertension. The others were asthma, kidney disease, dementia, and other psychiatric disorders.
Seventeen (90 per cent) of the persons who died during the week were unvaccinated.
