The Division of Youth will be hosting the Youth Development Office’s Community Sports tomorrow, Saturday, February 16, at the Deighton Griffith Secondary School, Kingsland, Christ Church.
The Rally, which will commence with an opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m., will include a presentation of sports equipment by the National Council on Substance Abuse, as well as certificates to participants in the Sports Not Drugs training workshop.
Acting Director of Youth, Hally Haynes, will deliver the address at the opening ceremony. Director of the Youth Affairs Division, Commonwealth Secretariat, Katherine Elli, and Dwynette Eversley of the Commonwealth Youth Programme Caribbean Centre, who are in Barbados for a meeting with CYP graduates and youth workers, will also be in attendance.
Teams from across Barbados will engage in playoffs in football, cricket, basketball, netball and hockey during the rally, which will conclude with a presentation of prizes at 5:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, the over 600 participants in the 2012/2013 YDP’s Community Sports Training Programme have each been invited to bring two non-perishable items to donate to the HIV/AIDS Food Bank. Those participants have been exposed to HIV and AIDS education through trained YDP HIV/AIDS Educators.
