Government is ensuring that the island’s youth get every advantage to succeed in their businesses.

This was emphasised last Saturday when the Youth Division of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, held a Youth Expo at Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael, as part of the activities to mark Youth Week, September 25 to October 2.

Director of Youth Affairs in the Ministry, Cleviston Hunte, noted the Expo was an excellent opportunity for youth to display their products and resilience.

He said: “National Youth Week and this expo that we are witnessing today, we want to support in relation to how important this expo is in terms of bringing the products of the young people in Barbados to the forefront.”

He added that he saw them as resilient young people, working and piloting their products through “an economic storm in Barbados at this current time.”

While acknowledging that the expo was also a “critical programme” for the Ministry, Mr. Hunte said: “The National Youth Week celebration is one which we take very seriously. It provides young people with that dedicated space on the calendar where they can show the true talents young people have. And, they are able to demonstrate to all and sundry that they are indeed, the future of this country and that they are indeed ready to take over the reins of running this country.”

The Ministry’s mandate is to help with the development of youth in Barbados, with young people showing there are committed to doing the work and their best to improve their lives.

Mr. Hunte also praised the Ministry’s staff. Noting that they had worked extremely hard to put the expo together, the Director of Youth Affairs said: “I want personally to congratulate every single member of staff who contributed to this event and we want to assure you that the Ministry will continue to do all that we can to promote the interests of young people in this country.”

The Expo featured a wide range of products on display from food and beverages, accessories, fashion, technology, services and personal care.
