The Barbados Fire Service (BFS) is reminding the public that on hearing a fire alarm go off in a building, it is an important safety requirement to evacuate the building as quickly as possible and call the BFS at 311.

Chief Fire Officer, Errol Maynard, advised that “instructions must be received from fire personnel, in order for persons to re-enter the building”.

Mr. Maynard continued: “A fire alarm should never be silenced or reset without the permission of a fire official, as doing so assumes great liability and could potentially result in injury or the loss of life.”
