The National Nutrition Centre, concerned about the food choices some Barbadians may want to make during the festive season, is offering a number of tips to help them maintain their nutrition goals and stay healthy.

The holiday nutrition tips are provided by the Centre, a department under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Persons are advised that when preparing a meal, they should always include a variety of nutritious foods in their daily diet and on the holiday menu.

Additionally, they are encouraged to offer more vegetable options so that each individual can fill half their plate with vegetables at mealtime.

Those choosing to have a snack are advised to make fruit the preferred choice and use applesauce, banana, or dried fruit as sugar substitutes in recipes, where possible.

Barbadians are also asked to consider the use of dried peas, like lentils and kidney beans, for use in stews, casseroles, and other dishes. The National Nutrition Centre is cautioning persons to avoid overeating by storing extra food for later use.
