The QEH is advising patients with chronic respiratory illnesses to protect themselves by avoiding large gatherings and practising good hand hygiene regularly.
Although there is no cure for asthma, prescribed maintenance medication when used as directed by a physician can prevent an asthma attack.
However, in the event of a mild asthma attack, patients are encouraged to use their asthma action plan and immediately call their primary care physician.
Patients of the Chest Out-Patient Clinic with scheduled appointments between now and Monday, June 1, are asked to call the hospital’s Respiratory Unit at 436-6450 Extensions 5355 and 5358, to facilitate the collection of prescription scripts.
They are also asked to ensure they obtain a three month-supply of all prescribed medications.
